Recipe for Tangy Cut-Mirchi

A piping hot crunchy evening vegetarian snack, Tangy Cut-Mirchi’s are a perfect answer to London’s wet evenings !! Made with mildly spiced peppers stuffed with a delightfully tangy stuffing and encased with a gram flour coating , this recipe comes across as a traditional South Indian delight.
Ingredients for Tangy Cut-Mirchi
Ingredients for the Mirchi batter :
Gram flour – 2 cups
Turmeric- 1/2 a teaspoon
Baking soda – 1/2 a teaspoon
Salt to taste
Chilli powder- 1/2 a teaspoon
Water – 1/4th cup
Ingredients for the Green bell peppers stuffing:
Green chilli peppers – 6-8
Mango powder (Amchur powder) – 1 tablespoon ( alternatively tamarind powder can be used )
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
Pinch of salt
Chili powder – a pinch
Sugar – 1/2 a teaspoon
Chat Masala – For Garnish
Onion – 1 medium finely chopped
Method to make Tangy Cut-Mirchi
In a bowl , mix together the gram flour, turmeric, baking soda , chilli powder and salt .
Stir in the water using a spoon or a whisk to prepare a smooth batter of semi- thick consistency
Parboil the green peppers and slit them longitudinally. Scoop out the seeds and leave the peppers aside ready to be filled with the filling
In another bowl mix together all the ingredients mentioned for green bell pepper filling
Now with the help of a spoon stuff all the slit bell peppers with the above prepared stuffing
After all the peppers have been stuffed in this way , get the oil ready in a kadai to fry the mirchis
In order to fry the mirchis, dip each of the stuffed bell pepper in the prepared gram flour batter such that the pepper gets coated evenly and then leave this coated pepper into the hot oil
Deep fry all the remaining mirchis using a perforated ladle till they come out crisp and golden brown
Serve these delectable crunchy yummy snack teamrd up with chopped onion and tamarind chutney
We can garnish with Chat Masala as well
